Traces of roots - up to development (english version)

napisano: 20 08 2012 r., autor: karolina trojan

"Traces of roots - up to development" centered on the concept of "origin" in the local, regional and European context. It included the creation of the parameters / indicators and materials aimed at increasing the integration of people from migrant families, easing concerns of natives to migrants, and to counteract the growing sense of uprooting.

The partnership has involved six organizations from five European countries (Austria, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Poland).
The partnership included a broad spectrum of entities (NGOs, institutions, a foundation and a municipal government). The diversity of the organizations in conjunction with a large geographical spread ensured the exchange of experiences at a high level and the introduction of new solutions.

1st Leer: Presentation of the method of operation associated with theater (drama education), a virtual art exhibition and of the archive in Leer. Innovation of the archive is to use a pedagogical model to prevent racist acts.
A thematic play with migrants and non-migrants has been created and presented to the public. They developed a website of the project (content and design): http://vhs-leer.de/index.php?id=367 .
Two meetings have taken place in Leer.
2nd Innsbruck: The FBI Centre has contributed to the project it´s expertise on the scenario workshop method. The presented method supports and facilitates the active participation of people from different social and interest groups.
The workshop offers participants a direct opportunity to exchange and discuss with experts / decision makers on their points of view, suggestions and questions.
They also generate a framework to improve the integration of migrants and contribute to alleviate the concerns of natives and help to mitigate natives concerns and counteract the increasing feeling of rootlessness
3rd Elblag: Method of working with young and older people as a joined target group with the goal to create a film. In this case, this method is referred to the subject country. A short film on the topic "Homeland/Ojczyzna" has been created.
4th Pordenone: During the meeting the participants familiarized themselves with the methods (Role Play) and activities, which have been undertaken for migrants. In addition they created the project logo.
5th Budapest. Describing the method of "Mosaic" (Jig Saw Method). They locally organized focus groups and workshops in the context of the project. They further developed a framework on how to describe the meaning and function of a "Cultural Ambassador".
A visit in a homeless centre has taken place.
6th Rome (Italy): During the meeting, the participants familiarized themselves with the activities / methods which the Italian partners applied to foster the integration of migrants - e.g. they organized an event of traditional African music and a visit to the Astalli refugee centre at Rome. They organized a dialogue session with national parliamentarians on the subject of "roots" in the House of Parliament.

As a part of the project seven partnership meetings were conducted in which:
· we got acquainted with the activities of the partner´s organization / institution
· we got acquainted with innovative and creative ways of working: based on the scenario workshop method (Austria), an archive pedagogical model (Germany), a virtual exhibition (Germany), drama educational theatre (Germany), creating a movie (Poland), mosaic (Jig Saw Method) (Hungary), social initiatives / methods and role play for the integration of migrants (Italy). These methods allowed us to improve our understanding of the concept of "home" and "origin". They can also be applied in further activities of the partners.
· A flyer and a project logo were created, which correspond to the concept of "home/homeland"

· A leaflet on the archive work has been translated into English (website).
· Project information was sent to organizations working on the topic, e.g. senior organizations, the local media, local authorities, institutions and migrants.
· A project website was established, which contains information on the project and its activities, results, description of project partners, etc.
· Jointly a film "Homeland" was created.
· Indicators / parameters / materials were created to improve the integration of migrants and contribute to alleviate the concerns of natives and help to mitigate natives concerns and counteract the increasing feeling of rootlessness.
· During the meetings representatives of various ages and social groups which contributed to the multicultural, intergenerational exchange of experiences and information have been invited.

Official meetings / publicity:
At the meetings we also hold close contact to representatives from the region. In detail we presented the process of the project and its outcomes to the majors of the towns, to representatives from political parties, to representatives from NGOs, and to members of the European parliament (Matthias Groote, Germany). The press was involved.

This project has been funded with support the European Commission under the Lifelong Learning Programme.
